    Rural Life

After the COVID-19 pandemic remote / hybrid working made it possible to be based anywhere. We now split our time between the Scottish countryside, Edinburgh, and London. We love being at a rooftop restaurant in the heart of the city surrounded by people one minute and then in the middle of nowhere surrounded only by sheep the next.

    Travel & Adventure

I’m fascinated by how large (and small, at times) our planet is. Travelling to a city on the opposite side of the planet in 12 hours, or being on a totally different continent in the space of an afternoon, still blows my mind. After 15 years of relentless travel for work, I’m now focused on making fewer trips that mean more. (And I carbon offset by planting trees).

    The perfect hotel

I love hotels. I used to spend a third of my entire year living in them, so it's probably a good thing. The way that a hotel is an individual ecosystem - often as large as a small town - in one building fascinates me. Not usually one for sitting still and doing nothing, that immediately changes when I’ve found the perfect spot in the lobby bar for people watching.

    Photography

I’ve been interested in photography ever since I got my first camera as a child. As a teenager I never went anywhere without my SLR - but the vast majority of my photos are shot on iPhone these days. I collect unusual prints and editions - with aerial and black and white landscapes among my favourite genres.

    Contemporary Art

My love of contemporary art and design was sparked by both an inspiring art teacher and an uninspiring design teacher at school. I'm specifically drawn to 20th Century artists like Bridget Riley, Mark Rothko, and Gerhard Richter. I love the clean lines, aggressive texture, bold colours, and striking geometry.

    Property & Interiors

Looking at listings, renovating, architecture, interior design, decorating, buying furniture, plans, collecting swatches / samples, sketching ideas, reading books, watching documentaries… I’m definitely a little obsessed. One day I’ll build the ‘perfect’ off-grid retreat, by a loch, in the mountains.

    Food & Drink

A colleague once said I think about food as much as a Singaporean - and I think that’s about right! I love finding new restaurants, learning how to cook new things, and discovering a new flavour. Whenever I travel, I try to sample a local restaurant’s tasting menu. Local produce and local wine make for the perfect tour guides.

    Nordic Noir

I'm healthily addicted to Nordic Noir - TV drama from Scandinavia (and increasingly the North of Scotland). The crime fiction genre has trademark characteristics and is typically shot in a realistic style with a morally complex darkness. Check out The Bridge, The Killing, and Trapped for a cross-section of the genre.

    Theatre & Cinema

I've always loved the theatre. From Sadler's Wells for contemporary dance to the National Theatre on the South Bank for original productions. I’m a member of Everyman Cinemas and try to see something new every couple of weeks. I’m a big fan of spending Sunday watching something like The Founder.
